Buying a Weber grill, especially a gas model, can be a significant investment. Some Weber gas grills cost over $1,000 so it is natural to try to get a bargain on one of these beauties. This raises the pertinent question, “When do Weber grills go on sale?“

Select Weber grills go on sale in the Spring about every two years when new models are being introduced and Big Box stores need to clear out the older versions from inventory. You can find drastic price cuts on certain models but will need to search for them in person as they are not advertised online.

Weber Has Clearance Deals But Not Special Sales

If you are waiting for a Winter deal like “30% Off Weber Grills” then you are going to be waiting a long time because events like that simply do not happen.

Weber maintains a Minimum Advertised Pricing (MAP) with its distributors that prevents them from under cutting each other with local discounted sales prices. Simply put, local Weber dealers are not allowed to drop the price so they cannot run sales special.

Any sales or discounts on Weber grills have to be originated at the Company level and in all of the years that I have been following the company I have never seen that happen.

The exception to Weber’s rules that creates some bargain shopping opportunities is when certain grills become discontinued and are no longer being manufactured and distributed. In these cases retailer’s can place deep discounts on the discontinued models to clear them out of inventory so they can make room for the new models.

As an example, the Weber Genesis II E 610 was discontinued for 2019. Some Home Depot stores still have a supply of the E 610 in stock and have placed them on deep discount to make room for new models like the Genesis II S 435.

I spotted this Genesis II E 610 selling at my local Home Depot for $599 which is a 40% discount off of its list price.

Not All Stores Run Clearance Sales on Weber Grills

Weber refreshes their gas grill designs every three years or so which creates these discount opportunities at the Big Box stores. Weber will come out with a new line of Spirit grills one year and then two years later will update the Genesis series. It has been a LONG time since the Summit series has been updated and I am expecting that to happen in 2023.

The frequency of design changes is great for consumers but can be a nightmare for small brick and mortar retailers.

There is a locally owned hardware store in Baton Rouge that specializes in grills and outdoor entertainment that I love to visit. These poor folks still have Spirit grills from two design changes ago out on the showroom floor trying to compete with newer models at the same price point.

The smaller stores simply cannot afford to eat the loss on the outdated grills.

Save on a Weber With Scratch and Dent Opportunities

Another great way to get a deal on a Weber is to look for slightly damaged models at Lowes or Home Depot. I usually find the slightly damaged grills out in the Garden department hidden away from the pristine floor models.

I have spotted multiple gas grills that have been marked down by several hundred dollars because of various degrees of cosmetic damage or missing parts.

Sometimes the “damage” is as simple as the fact that the grill is missing the burner control knobs or one of the cooking grates. Problems like these are a simple fix that can be resolved with a quick call to Weber customer service.

Sometimes the damage includes dents to the cabinetry, side shelves or lid. This type of damage is a tough call as it does not impact grilling performance but does leave you looking at an ugly grill. Considering that the grill is going to last you at least a decade, that is a long time to be staring at a dent!
